How many times a day do you really sit and thank the universe for the things that you have in your life? It’s human nature for you to always want more for yourself but many of us often grumble to ourselves and beat ourselves up for not being where we planned to be in our lives. Why focus on the negative when it’s so much more beneficial for you to focus on the positive? Don’t worry sis I know it’s easier said than done, it doesn’t come second nature to many of us. As with anything practice makes perfect or at the very least good enough. I’ve recently began gratitude journaling ironically in November and it has helped me change the view of my world. Here’s how a simple journal can be beneficial to you too.

Adulting is intense. Trying to juggle work or school hell for many both then trying to hold together the pieces of your social life, along with keeping track of your health it can get overwhelming. Sometimes we may feel like we don’t have time for ourselves. You have to make that time for you and prioritize it. Be just as dedicated and punctual as you are to your employer and clock in for you. Take the time out and reflect on your day especially the bad ones and find 3 things to be grateful for and write them down. Even if it’s the smallest thing like a compliment from a stranger, keep that same energy and pay it forward. Practicing this daily will help you make the conscience decision to be more optimistic.

Gratitude journaling has trained my mental eye to appreciate the small moments of my life. For example, that instantaneous smile you get when you hear a child laugh, or that fresh feeling of stepping out of a nice hot shower after a great workout. Imagine your life without the moments you take for granted. Best said by the Greek philosopher Epicurus

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not, remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for”

Let’s be honest we all have those days where we are not feeling our best selves. Another reason having a gratitude journal is beneficial is because you can use it to look back on and it will help get rid of those toxic emotions. Protect your energy sis, how easily those feelings of self-doubt and negativity will creep up on you and ruin your mood. Going back to remind yourself of what you have to be grateful for will give you that boost that you need in the moment, it has for me. The journal has made me more appreciative of the people I have in my life and more self-aware on what truly makes my soul happy. Its also helped me sleep better. I felt more relaxed and at peace before bed.

My advice give gratitude journaling a try. How many things can you list that you have tried completely risk free? All you need is pen and paper to start or if you want to be fancy like I was you can get this cute little book from your local Michel’s craft store. This specific book also leaves a space each day so you can write daily affirmations which is a great bonus. I want to know what you guys are thankful for leave a comment down below.
